A LATIN DANCE CENTRE

The Broomielaw has a historical significance. The river edge has been subjected to regeneration strategies with the aim to reconnect derelict districts back to the city. The stretch welcomes opportunities for a cultural insert to activate its riverfront and contribute to Glasgow's cultural platform.

The proposal integrates a centre of Latin dancing, accumulating functions of performance, teaching and social gathering. Glasgow had a notorious ballroom culture during the past century, a lost piece of heritage that could be re-established.

The building focuses on the journey, making circulation and spaces an experience of drama and intensity to mimic the essence of Latin dancing. Planes and light guides you through presenting unexpected dramatic moments. Light is crafted to create desired atmospheres and accentuate the dancing. The angles of the plan derive from axis lines taken from notorious ballrooms in Glasgow,  generating a new dance centre paying homage to the river and Latin dancing.
