CHARLOTTE SORENSON DESIGN
A PLACE OF CONTEMPLATION
The slopes of Rottenrow Gardens reflects back to the topography of Glasgow. It is one of the few green spaces in the centre and is very much used as a space to escape the city atmosphere. The initial thoughts were that the materials should reflect the surrounding environment, blend in and aim to be serene through spaces and use of light.

The sloping roof elements reflect the site and city, simple shapes to create dynamic elevations and structures. The building is designed to craft and manipulate light to evoke emotion and create atmosphere. Light becomes a focus point within the varying spaces, creating plays of light on the plywood interiors. The exterior is clad in locally sourced larch that has allowed to weather and interior surfaces are plywood creating unadorned and serene spaces where light becomes a feature.
